Mt Roskill Grammar School - School Chess Championships

Rules

There are three events. You may enter all three if you are eligible. You cannot enter a championship you have previously won.
- Open Chess Championship - open to all students
- Junior Chess Championship - open to Years 9 and 10 students
- Girls Chess Championship - open to all girl students
You must be a member of the school chess team. Pay $25 to school accounts for Chess Team. See Mrs Burns if you need financial assistance. Seriously. We won't exclude anyone due to financial hardship. But you must let us know. Quietly. We will keep it secret (confidential).

Format: Double-life knock-out to select candidate to play the top-seeded player in a best of 4 game match.
Time control: 10 minutes + 5 second increment. You must use a clock unless both players agree not to. You can vary the time control if both players agree. BUT a game must be completed by the end of lunch-time if played at school lunch-time. If it is not completed, the result may be agreed by the players, adjudicated by Mr McDougall or adjudicated by a person agreed to by both players.
You will be notified of pairings to your school email and on this webpage. You must complete one match a week, or you will lose a life, unless you have contacted Mr McDougall to arrange an extension.
Two draws count as a loss for the knockout. If both players are on 0.5 lives left and draw (that is, both players would be knocked out by a draw), only the lowest rated is knocked-out.
A game will count for all school championships. So winning a game for the Junior Championship will also count as a win in the Open Championship.

Pairings

Where there is a clash of pairing choices, the lowest priority code number A?? takes precedence. However games that have already started must continue. If your first choice is not present or available, move on to your second, third, etc choice
