Volunteer to help with school chess events

If you are: then we invite you to register as a volunteer with the School Chess Association

A few times a year we will contact you and ask if you are free to help out with running school chess competitions. You can just say no or ignore it. The day may not suit. You're busy with study or work. That's OK. But if someday everything aligns you may say 'yes, I can help that day'. And if we have 50 volunteers and they say yes once in 10 years, that's still 5 people helping out. Which is all we need.

You don't even know how to play chess but any expertise is helpful. There are a variety of roles and we can give you all the training you need. But even just resetting chess clocks is a big help. And you can always learn to do more if that's what you want - right up to hosting a competition. But that's entirely up to you.

As a volunteer there is not always payment, but we will cover travel expenses or arrange transport.

All you have to do is give us your name, email address and a mobile phone number. And once a year we'll ask you to confirm those contact details are still current. And you can drop out at any time. But we hope you won't. Because maybe even in 10 or 20 or 30 years time you'll have some free time to give back.

Only register if you have a genuine intention to help out someday, even if you're not sure when. It's OK if that never happens.
