How to Get Better at Chess

1. Play Chess

Play Online

If you are one of the top 12 players in your school, or if you are keen to improve, you should consider paying to enter JOOC. Read all the details and register and pay online. If you have trouble registering, please ring Wayne McDougall on mobile 021 669 768. This is one game a week for 7 weeks, Saturday nights at 6pm. The first round was on 5 September, but it's fine to join late. You will get an easier opponent if you do.

If you feel you are not quite at this standard of play, or it's too much money, there is a free tournament at the same time. These games are shorter, so you can expect to play 7 games between 6pm and 7.30pm. There is a tournament every Saturday night. It's a bit more complicated to sign up, so you should register now. To do so first the parents must register at ChessKids, then you add your child, then you assign paul@chesspower.co.nz as a 'Guardian' so he can add you to the team. Read the Entry Requirements, follow the instructions, and phone Wayne McDougall on 021669768 if you need help.

Where the instructions say "Play Fast Chess", the button has changed and you now click on "Play Kids". You will then be able to join the tournament from 5.45pm. But you must give Paul enough time to add you, so register and set up the Guardian now.
